2 great sites that will save a lot of people time and hassle
I don’t often promote specific sites, but these to early stage apps are indeed, killer.
1. http://www.searchtempest.com
Ever use craigslist? My guess is everyone has surfed craigslist at one point in time or another – for one reason or another – and I’ve been seeking a comprehensive a craigslist search tool forever. Part of the appeal of craigslist is the obvious simplistic approach; they don’t seem to be to eager to change things even if it means more functionality. Due to craigslist’s philosophy and TOS, there aren’t a lot of legit 3rd party tools out there that actually integrate well with the service. Searchtempest.com seems to have figured it out and has created a (beta) app that allows users to search multiple locations at once. Solid.
From the same creator comes Hankshelper.com. Hankshelper is focused on the car search space and they compile results from craigslist, ebay motors, autotrader, cars.com, automotive.com, and carsdirect in a simple format. It’s the definition of an aggregate tool that will save people time and hassle. Also clearly in beta but fully functional.

I’ve been using them all ever since searchtempest was craigshelper, and I am giving big edge to craigslook because of their picture previews, radius search and cute clean layout.
I used to like searchtempest because of their ebay results but I don’t use them much since they have added “sponsored listings” and java to their site. Crazedlist is ok but not that exciting.
Hope this helps
Great, thanks Rajeev! Perhaps your should contact Nathan at HanksHelper.com directly with your feedback? The site is Beta…
Even better, I’ll reply here!
Searchtempest.com also offers radius search, and it lets you specify any radius you like, rather than limiting you to 250 miles like craiglook.
Picture previews are something I’ve intentionally stayed away from because of the significant strain they put on craigslist’s servers. Other sites (like listpic.com) have been shut down in the past for doing that, and I imagine it’s only a matter of time before craiglook is too. Also, image previews greatly increase the time it takes for results to load and the space they take up. Searchtempest will show you many more results more quickly, and if you’re actually interested in a particular one, the pics are only a click away.
The java search is an *option*, which again will allow you to search much more quickly. Sites like craiglook use a third party (yahoo pipes in that case) to get results from craigslist, which are then passed to the craiglook server, then to you. The results are slightly delayed from what appears right at craigslist, and more importantly, the process is slow. I’ll bet you can search the whole US with Searchtempest in the time it takes to search one state in Craiglook. If you don’t like that java option though, you’re welcome to continue using the Searchtempest classic search – you will be prompted to choose when you run your first search, and can change your choice at any time by clicking the Options link.
Hope that clears some things up. Searchtempest has been the #1 craigslist search site for almost 3 years now, and I will continue working to make sure it stays that way!
