about
Generally Speaking…
I’m a product of the net generation – consumed with technology in everyday life & business. I believe the modern web represents the greatest means of communication known to mankind; thus we find ourselves in the midst of a revolution of information, ideas and thought.
Although the Internet as we know it has been brought to us by countless individuals and forces over the decades, we are still in the early stages of the networked age (as measured by sheer number of people “on” the network relative to those “off” the network). As the network continues its exponential growth trajectory, I see the advancement spawned as permeating our personal lives, our communities, and our cultures (and yes-our corporations) in ways we cannot yet fathom.
My personal interest lies in technological innovations that seek to improve the quality of human life. I’m an idealist of the opinion that we, as humans, are in the middle of a massive evolutionary shift where the Internet is leveraged as a medium to make the world around us a better place, not just to generate income and be narcissistic.
There’s no shortage of problems waiting to be solved by connecting online and coming together offline to pool resources and take action in the real world.
A few random self-proclaimed personal attributes and characteristics:
Digitally Fluent: I can wrap my head around many different aspects of the web and information technology; from a macro context/bird’s eye view to consumer behavior patterns to beta start-ups. I’m tuned-in and my approach is deliberately diverse in its nature, because to me, using the web to achieve results is about connecting the dots. Nearly everywhere I go, there are missed opportunities for organizations (commercial and otherwise) to reach, maintain, and exceed their goals through a variety of different web based tools and strategies.
Not to worry though, the future will have a place for these missed opportunities to be compiled (en masse), and implemented while crediting and rewarding those originating minds (we’re getting closer but not quite there yet).
Contrarian: I have found that most assumptions (personal and otherwise) are invalid and therefore I’ve adopted a mindset of thinking contrary to conventional wisdom-one that isn’t afraid to challenge my personal paradigm as well as the status-quo – what is best described as “the norm”.
Curiosity: Often, the hardest but most important question: “why?”
Change Agent: Change is scary to be certain, but my aim is to incorporate change into aspects of life and business where change is mandatory and inevitable. In this sense, I am most compatible in business cultures & environments where continuous improvement is actually part of the model, not just corpspeak.
BIG Thinker: While there are limits and chance/probability are certainly success factors, I’ve been a big thinker as far back as I can remember thinking (if that even makes sense). The challenge for me is not thinking BIG but thinking small.
Human: so imperfect & fallible.
Passion: My passion for contributing fuels my relentless sense of urgency.
Energy: Life=energy.
Open: I see value in remaining open in a closed environment such as Minnesota. Too many people saying no and looking for reasons (excuses) to try and stay closed in a market that is showing strong signs of favoring such traits as openness & transparency. Fear, ego, and insecurity are ingrained in our human nature, but they are getting in the way of our ability to evolve as a societal whole and move-on to bigger and better things. My bet is the organizations that will see unprecedented prosperity within the next few years are those that will have adopted an unusually open approach (both inside and out), and five years from now the way we define and perceive a corporation will be completely different from everything we’ve come to know it as.
Ohh Yeah: I enjoy the finer things in life just like everyone else: exercise (and playing in general), good eats, hot sex, live music, red wine, cheap whiskey, travel, documentary film, puppy dogs, long walks on the beach…
Areas of Improvement:
where do I start?
- Spelling &G rammar
- Impatience: I expect a lot out of myself and those around me; sometimes too much too soon!
